I asked Jorge a few questions, who is a software engineer responsible for the development, design, and implementation of new and modified software products and ongoing business projects. A key area of focus in a custom web-based Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS).
He is from Morelos, Mexico; place that has always known how to exploit its bonanzas and therefore called the state of Eternal Spring.
Let’s see what he has to say to my questions…
How will you describe yourself?
I’m a pretty laid back person, who enjoys the simple things in life. I’m an avid and passionate learner when it comes to code, I try to absorb as much as I can whenever I can while at work, fun thing though, learning comes from work also, so that is a win win situation for me. Couldn’t picture myself doing something else.
How do you enjoy your free time?
Well I got two kids who like the Power Rangers, so in my spare time I’m the black Power Ranger and we destroy monsters in the yard, who sometimes are represented by our dog Kawaii, or our minipig Mika; and when not coding, I do enjoy reading about the Roman empire, mostly about its military, and for my fiction, I like high fantasy and sci-fi. And I do enjoy Latin linguistics as well. Don’t ask me why, as I do not know the reason I like that stuff, guess I’m kinda nerdy.
Best series you have ever watched?
In order of awesomeness: The OA, Sense 8, Rome
Mountain or the beach?
Mountain, I live in a tropical zone so everytime is below 20C is a bliss.
Do you practice any sports (adventure, extreme, endurance)?
Do some boxing, and calisthenics, nothing major all in my yard, to keep me from growing horizontally.
Which kind of music do you like?
I do enjoy low beat music, genre wise would be Trip-Hop, artists I do enjoy Aurora, Bjork, MO, Bonobo, Chet Faker, Flume and a big etcetera.
What are your top books of all the time?
- Will go for sagas here. Mistborn Brandon Sanderson.
- Farseer trilogy – Robin Hobb.
- The Enders Saga – Orson Scott Card.
- The Tawny Man Trilogy – Robin Hobb.
What are your top 5 movies of all the time?
- Dancer in the Dark
- Independence Day
- Fifth Element
- The Ladykillers
What is the most exciting part of being a Software Engineer?
Constantly learning is something that I love, and something that works gives me as a side benefit. And the fact that not a single day is the same as the day before is something that really keeps the spark flowing.
Which is the best part of being part of the 4Geeks team?
Freedom of becoming whoever I want to become at my own time and pace, it’s amazing being a part of a distributed team and working on interesting projects that help me grow as a person and as a professional.
What are your goals for this year?
Keep on learning within my stack, leave no stone unturned and be a better developer than I was this year.
